Pastor Joshua’s Letter, Announcements, and Order of Service - Sunday, April 2, 2023

CBC,

Let me ask you pretty much the most important question in the history of the world: What is the gospel?

Actually that wasn’t a rhetorical question.

Did you try to answer it? I’ll wait.

Now think about your response. Did your answer need the Old Testament? In other words, would people have been able to understand what you said without you at least giving them some basic Old Testament context and background?

Ok, think about how Luke presents Jesus in his gospel. Maybe read Luke 1 and 2. How much Old Testament is there? Or take some time to read the sermons in the book of Acts, how often do they reference concepts from the Old Testament? Paul’s sermon in Acts 17 might be the one unique instance, but for the most part, when the apostles talk about the gospel, they talk a lot of Old Testament.

This Sunday we are going to look at Luke 9:18–20 and see why.

I can’t wait.

Come praying!

Joshua
