Pastor's Letter, Announcements, and Worship Service Details - February 5, 2023

CBC,

Fear is a sneaky sin.

It can appear so reasonable. It seems like it is interested in our good. And yet, it often kidnaps and enslaves us. During our worship service this Sunday we are going to look at some of the excuses we give for our fear and what Jesus thinks of them. Hopefully you will go away encouraged to step out in faith and joyfully obey Jesus even when it looks frightening at first.

Plus we get to pray!

Prayer is where we do some of our most important work as a church. We praise God for who He is and what He has done. We encourage one another. We express our neediness to God. We demonstrate that we can’t do life on our own and we can’t do the work of the ministry in our own strength as we pray. If you are able, please join us during equipping hour as we partner together in prayer.

Parents: For the younger children this Sunday, you can have them listen for the word: “obey.” To encourage them, Marda will have some treats afterward.

Something to Think About!

“I know some of my acquaintance who think it the right thing to be always fearing, and are half suspicious of a man who has strong faith. They even call full assurance “presumption,” and are amazed that anybody should have confidence in God. But, if they did but know it, there is more presumption in unbelief than there can be in faith. It is gross presumption on a child’s part to disbelieve its father’s word. There is no presumption in a child’s believing what its father tells it; it then only does its duty. For me to accept the naked promise of a faithful God, and, despite my unworthiness, still to believe it true, is humility; but for me to take that promise from my father’s lip, and begin to cavil at it, and to question it, is nothing better than pride hiding its nakedness with the thinnest gauze of pretended modesty. Shun, I pray you, the unbelief that apes humility, and seek after that unstaggering faith which is the truest meekness in the sight of God!”

C.H. Spurgeon

Church-Wide Prayer @ 9:00 AM

What a privilege to pray to our Father with our brothers and sisters because of Jesus’ work on the cross! If there is a burden you’d like to share, we’d love to join you in praying. Please send Isaiah any prayer requests.

Join us next Sunday, February 12th at 9 a.m., for the fourth of a Six-Week Series: Overcoming Anger. Some of us burst out in anger. Some of us clam up in anger. And some of us do the switcheroo: While bursting out at our kids, we pick up the phone and then seamlessly transition to clamming-up anger while talking to our boss! But don’t worry: God has help for all of us in all our sinful anger!
