Worship Service - June 5, 2022

CBC,

You are made in the image of God.

That’s glorious.

But you are a sinner, and because you are a sinner, there are many reasons you are not worthy to be loved by God.

There is one reason however to be confident you are.

His name is Jesus.

Only Jesus can save and Jesus only saves sinners.

This Sunday we are going to look at Luke 5:27–32 and be reminded what makes the gospel so unique and be challenged to believe it and enjoy it and be transformed by it.

Please prepare yourself.

J.I. Packer once explained that preaching is “the event of God himself bringing to an audience a Bible-based, Christ-related, life-impacting message of instruction and direction through the words of a spokesperson.”

That’s big.

Because I know my own weakness, I want to help you make the most out of Sunday messages.

Specifically, I’ve made some changes to the sermon brief I normally send out.

It includes some things to do before you come on Sunday to help you benefit, some things to do while you are at church, and then some things to do afterwards.

Please take some time before Sunday to print it out and look through it.

Come ready! Come expectant! Come praying!

Joshua

Parents,

I’ve included some things in the sermon brief document that I think will help you and your children benefit from the message this Sunday. Check them out. Print out what’s helpful. Or perhaps you can come up with a better plan yourself. For the younger children this Sunday, you can have them listen for the word, “unworthy” To encourage them, Marda will have some treats afterward.

Extra Encouragement:

On the Family Matters Podcast this week, I talked about many ways we can be different from one another without it being sin and why knowing that matters. Check it out here. If you are being helped, let me know. You might even give a rating on our apple podcast channel. Apparently that helps others know about it. Also if you have questions you would like me to address, give me an email.

Announcements:

Church-Wide Prayer. On Sunday, the church will join together to pray at 9 a.m. Have you enjoyed the Church Family Time? Then let’s praise God for what He’s doing and pray for HIm to do more! Please take time to prepare with this document, sent out earlier this week.

Short-Term Missions Offering. An offering for Short-Term Missions will be taken during service on June 5 and 12.

Church Family Time. Here are links to the three Family Time sessions. While everyone is invited to listen, if you are a member committed to Cornerstone Bible Church, please make sure to catch up on any that you have missed.

Always Ready. In our next Equipping Hour class, we want to prepare you to be ready to tell the Gospel whenever you have a listening ear…including to those who’ve never been to church! This class will have some simple memorization work, outside listening, and light reading. Class begins June 12th at 9 a.m. and will meet for three Sundays. A church email will go out with more instructions regarding what to do before class begins.

Short-Team Missions Fundraising. On June 10th, members of the South Africa and Alaska STM's, as well as students from ROOTS, will babysit your kids! We will be at the church from 5pm-9pm, playing games, watching a movie, and having fun. Take the opportunity to drop the kids off and have a date night or catch up with old friends! We will provide dinner for the kids. A donation will be taken to support the STM's. Please fill out this form for each child that will be attending.

Welcoming. Lord willing, this Sunday, greeters and ushers will have a visitor response card for guests to fill out. Please take a look at the card so you are familiar with it. If you’re sitting next to someone who raises their hand, please welcome them! And if you’re sitting next to someone who looks new but doesn’t raise their hand, please ask them if they’ve had an opportunity to get our welcome packet. Visitors can put the cards in the blue offering box in the back. Thank you for being the Welcoming Team!
