Worship Service - May 1, 2022

CBC,

Have you ever been shocked to find out you’ve used a word wrong your whole life? That it didn’t quite have the meaning you thought it did. Or have you ever been surprised to learn that you’re the only person—or maybe it's only your family—who uses a tool the wrong way, while everyone else uses it a different way…the right way?

That kind of shock is a little picture of what the Apostle Paul is trying to evoke when he writes the Corinthian church. The Corinthians were doing life…wrong. Though saved, they had missed fundamental truths regarding the Gospel that should have changed everything going forward—and it wasn’t because God had been subtle about these truths! The truths were obvious. But the change hadn’t gone deep enough.

With His Gospel and Gospel ministry, God is getting our attention so that we rethink the fundamentals of how we see life. By God’s Grace, He will help us grow tomorrow in the way we see our lives.

In the passage we look at tomorrow, 1 Corinthians 1:17–2:5, the Apostle Paul is going to say some crazy things. He uses phrases like the “foolishness of God” and the “weakness of God.” That’s surprising in itself. But even more crazy is a crucified Christ.

As we see how Paul responds to what was going on in the Corinthian church—squabbles over who the most-gifted preacher was—we’re going to see that Paul is going for something deep. Something shocking. Something that should leave us wondering: Am I doing life God’s way? Or am I trying to fit the Gospel into my way?

Please pray that God blesses the preaching of HIs Word.

Grace and peace,

Isaiah

Parents,

A great word for the kids to listen for tomorrow is “foolish” or “foolishness.” The outline is below the order of worship for those who’d like it.

Church-Wide Prayer @ 9 AM

The church will join together to pray at 9am. Your heart will be impacted as God hears the prayers of His children! Please spend some time preparing to share by looking at the prayer guide. (Childcare will be provided.)
