Worship Service - May 22, 2022

CBC,

We exist for Christ.

This Sunday, we are going to be reminded why that is such an incredible privilege. Jesus is worth all of our hearts, all of our energy, all of our devotion, because Jesus can do something no one else can.

He has the power and authority to deal with the fundamental problems that separate man from God and that keep people from participating in the kingdom of God.

Imagine. You look at yourself and see sin and you see shame. You look at God and you see absolute holiness and perfection. How can people like us live in the presence of a God like that?

Jesus claims to be able to make that possible. Jesus proves He is able to make that possible. This is good news, and we, the church, have been entrusted with taking this message out to the world.

In our Equipping Hour we are going to continue to spend some time thinking together about how we can fulfill that mission and vision as a church, and hearing some exciting updates about what’s ahead. You are part of this! That’s a privilege and a responsibility.

Come ready!

Joshua

Parents,

I’ve included some things in the sermon brief document that I think will help you and your children benefit from the message this Sunday. Check them out. Print out what’s helpful. Or perhaps you can come up with a better plan yourself. For the younger children this Sunday, you can have them listen for the words, “leper” and “shame.” To encourage them, Marda will have some treats afterward.

Extra Encouragement:

This past week on the podcasts I talked about how to take correction well and how to pursue a deeper friendship in our marriages. I think the one on friendship is especially important -- check it out here. If you are being helped, let me know. You might even give a rating on our Apple podcast channel. Apparently that helps others know about it. Also, if you have questions you would like me to address, send me an email.

Finally, we’ll be back to our Pastor Q and A podcast this week. If you have any questions you would like the pastors here at CBC to discuss, please bring them here.

Announcements:

Men’s Ministry. May 28th @ 7:30 a.m. Enjoy breakfast with other men and discuss how to apply God’s Word together. To help our brother Jim know how much breakfast to make, please RSVP. If you forget to RSVP, please still come!

Vacation Bible School (VBS) Volunteer Sign-Up. You may have missed last week’s meeting but you can still serve at VBS. Please sign up here. VBS will be on the evenings of July 31–August 3.

Always Ready. In our next equipping hour class, we want to prepare you to be ready to tell the Gospel whenever you have a listening year… including to those who’ve never been to church! This class will have some simple memorization work, outside listening, and light reading. Please sign up here so I can get resources for participants. Class begins June 13th at 9 a.m. and will meet three Sundays. (This is a great way to get ready for summer outreach and mission trips!)

Short-Team Missions Fundraising. On June 10th, members of the South Africa and Alaska STM's, as well as students from ROOTS, will babysit your kids! We will be at the church from 5 p.m.–9 p.m., playing games, watching a movie, and having fun. Take the opportunity to drop the kids off and have a date night or catch up with old friends! We will provide dinner for the kids. A donation will be taken to support the STM's.

Podcasts! Subscribe to podcasts from CBC. The church’s podcasts can be found here.

Bible Reading Project. This Thursday, May 26th, we will ask ourselves: What are we to make of Old Testament laws regarding slavery? Come and learn with Pastor Joshua from Exodus Chapter 21 as we read God’s Word together! Thursdays, Auditorium, 6:30–7:30 a.m.

Weekly Pre-Service Prayer. While the whole church will be joining together at 9am on the first Sunday of the month, there will be a weekly, pre-service prayer time from 8:15–8:45 a.m. in the Upper Room. The focus will be praying for that morning’s ministry, our missionaries, and other requests

Family Time, part 2 @ 9 AM

God is working at CBC! Please plan on attending both hours so that you can stay informed about what God is doing at CBC so you can both praise Him and know how to pray for your church. (Non-members are welcome to attend!)
